Mastering Composition

Instructor: Dannielle Mick
Composition is the foundation of all good paintings. Composition refers to the organizational structure of a painting. You can have the most interesting subject matter, color palette and technical execution but if the composition does not work the viewer has moved on. In this workshop you will learn about the importance of designing, arranging, and editing shapes to create a coherent flow. Dozens of standard composition designs will be explored. All media welcome.

Pastel Box

If you have just started painting in pastel or you are having trouble keeping your pastel box organized this workshop is for you! Students will bring your boxes of pastels and learn how to arrange them according to color and value. Students will leave the workshop with a brand new pastel box and a deeper understanding of color values. All materials will be provided.

Introduction to Pastel

Instructor: Dannielle Mick
This workshop will combine structured exercises while learning the basics of painting with pastels. Working from photographs, students will learn different techniques of layering pastels, hard over soft and soft over hard. The shape and direction of your strokes and the amount of pressure needed to achieve the desired effect will be covered. The brands of hard, medium and soft pastel can be sampled, as well as different paper surfaces. Demonstrations and class critique will round out this informative workshop. Bring an apron and pack a lunch. All materials supplied.

Exploring Acrylic

Instructor: Dannielle Mick
What is acrylic? The dictionary tells us it is a glassy thermoplastic made by polymerizing methacrylic acid. But as a painting medium, acrylic can best be described as versatile. Depending on the application it can resemble anything from a watercolor to an oil painting. Acrylic is a wonderful medium for creating multiple layers on a variety of surfaces. In this hands-on workshop discover the array of mediums used to enhance your acrylic paintings. Students will learn color mixing, toning, glazing, varnishes, and much more. Demonstrations and class critique will round out this informative workshop. Bring an apron and pack a lunch. All materials supplied.

Capturing the Impression: An Observational Approach to Painting

Instructor: Dannielle Mick
This workshop will focus on observing shapes in general and by using color as a descriptive element in relating the subject without detail. The theoretical approaches to color will be included through direct observation. Open to all levels this workshop offers a working approach to painting that connects students directly to their impressions from the visual color field. Group discussion and demonstrations will be included.

Open Studio

The open studio space is intended to give local artists the opportunity to work in a shared environment with other artists. The studio is light and airy, and tables and easels are provided. The studio space provides a perfect intimate setting for artistic expression. Artists may work from life, imagination, or photographs. All media is welcome.
